Cannabis and Breast Cancer

The rise of breast cancer cases among men and women is reported annually. To some who can’t relate, breast cancer may look like a mere statistic. However, this dreaded disease is real and has a grave impact not just on the lives of those who acquire it, but their families, too.

The statistics of U.S women acquiring breast cancer in their lifetime increases every year. According to studies, about 13% or 1 of 8 women develop this dreaded disease. Approximately 1 in 833 men, on the other hand, have a risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

How does cannabis help?

Cannabis or marijuana is regarded as a recreational drug due to its hallucinogenic effects, and the feeling of being high. However, over time, cannabis has become more than just a “weed” in the medical community. Interest in its medical properties has grown due to its capability to treat or even provide relief on certain health conditions.

What was just considered as “pot” before, is now also called “medicinal cannabis”, “medical hemp”, etc.

So how does it work?

The contents found in cannabis called THC and CBD give different medicinal effects on the body. The marijuana plant has different strains depending on how it is grown and the conditions it has been exposed to. Effects of Cannabis products also vary depending on how it was consumed (taken orally or inhaled), too.

Here are some common medicinal benefits from cannabis, as claimed by cancer patients:

  • Vomiting, nausea, and appetite loss brought about by chemotherapy
  • Pain management for headache, muscle, and joint pain, stiffness, and overall discomfort
  • Sleep discomfort and problems like insomnia
  • Anxiety, depression, and stress

It is vital to reiterate that medical cannabis has been proven effective in helping cancer patients deal with their symptoms and side effects. However, it DOES NOT cure any disease, most especially, CANCER. It is not a cure or treatment. It helps significantly in pain management and makes life manageable for patients. It significantly improves your quality of life as well.
